I take my inspiration from Dylan Thomas for the solid blue: “Rage, rage against the dying of the light” (from “Do not go gentle into that good night”)

For the variegated – I think WH Davis has the best descriptor of a kingfisher: “It was the Rainbow gave thee birth”

The variegated makes me think of dragonflies, and yes (nod to Lizzie) kingfishers.

The semi-solid of slow flowing, warm water, or sapphires.

Variegated: dragonfly jewels
Semi-solid: lazy river

I think the commenters so far have the right theme… they definitely make me think of the coast and the sea :) The variegated one also makes me think of my late Grandad – they’re very much his colours – and we always used to go on holiday with them to the south coast when i was little… So: ‘A Coastal Walk with my Grandad’ and for the blue: ‘Messing About In Boats’
