This shawl pattern and the coordinating socks have both been designed to celebrate the 15th Unravel Festival in Farnham, held annually at The Maltings, it has grown to a three-day event celebrating all things yarn. This pattern is for a small triangular shawl with gentle combination of garter stitch stripes, stocking stitch sections with a small cable detail and a slightly more challenging colourwork panel at the end.
Yarn
Selkino – 70% Merino, 30% silk singles yarn. 400 m per 100 g
100 g main colour (MC) and 50 g contrast colour (CC)
Sample 1 knitted in Thunder Bay (MC) and Royal Ascot (CC)
Sample 2 knitted in Unravel Show Colourway Crystal & Roses
Needles
3.5 mm (US 4) and 3.75 mm (US 5) needles, or size needed to get gauge. Circular needle at least 80 cm (32”) is recommended
Gauge
28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm (4”) in stocking stitch knitted flat using the smaller needles. Gauge is not critical for this project, but a different gauge will affect the final size of the shawl and the yardage requirements
Size
One size – shawl will measure approximately 95 cm (37.5”) long and 62 cm (24.5”) wide at the widest point
Notes
You may like to use a cable needle, or cable pattern can be worked without if preferred. A tapestry needle is required
